Singapore may be hot all year round, but summer is still worth celebrating. And what better way to do so by kicking off the weekend with fine company, scintillating conversation and, dare we say, more than a smidgen of alcohol. (Don’t worry – teetotalers are welcome!)

Boat Race Dinner 2012

Dear Fellow Oxbridge Members, Alumni & Friends,

The Boat Race Dinner this year will be held on 7th April 2012 at the Raffles Hotel – The Ballroom, Level 3. Dinner will commence at 8.00pm.

Tentative timing as follows:

7.00pm Pre-dinner drinks and registration
8.00pm Dinner
9.15pm Live screening of the Boat Race (2.15pm BST)
9.45pm Speeches by representatives of both universities

Regular tickets are $150 per head

The September Social

Join us for an afternoon of informal mingling as we send this year’s freshers off on their journey up to Cambridge!  Whether you are a first year, a current student or a Cantab alumni, this is an excellent opportunity for you to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

This year we’ve invited Mr Vikram Nair, the newly-minted MP for Sembawang GRC, who read Law at Trinity to offer a few words of advice to the incoming freshers.  Vikram is also a lawyer at Norton Rose, specialising in international arbitration

The event is free for freshmen entering Cambridge as well as members of the Oxbridge Society.  Non-members will be able to attend for a nominal fee of $5 to offset costs while alumni who wish to become members on the spot can pay $15 to join the Society (usual annual fees are $30). Please pay by cash at the door.

Wine, soft drinks and light finger snacks will be provided.

The Evening Soiree

Dr Melanie Chew and her husband Tony are graciously opening their beautiful home for a charity fund-raising musical soiree to which you are warmly invited; featuring boy soprano Matthew Supramaniam, violinist Ang Shao-Wen and Classical guitarist Dr Robert Liew.

Evening programme:
5.00PM Champagne and Strawberries
6.00PM Musical Soiree

Musical highlights to include much-loved soprano solos: Ave Maria (Bach Gounod), Panis Angelicus (Cesar Franck), Irish ballad Danny Boy; Venezuelan Folk Songs (Antonio Lauro) and Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Francesco Tarrega)for Maestro guitar, some ensemble arrangements and surprise violin virtuoso solos.

This will be followed by a light buffet dinner.

Charitable objectives/donations: Mr Tony Chew and Dr Melanie Chew are generously sponsoring the food and beverage and as such there will be no charge. Guests are however invited to give generously to support EQUATE which is a sheltered workshop located in the National Equestrian Park, which gives vocational and on-the-job training for 30 adults diagnosed with low IQ (50-70).  This follows the great success of EQUAL (Equine-assisted Learning for At Risk Kids) which provides horse therapy for youngsters 14 – 16 who have dropped out of school or are in danger of doing so, which has 160 kids enrolled.
