Dec 2006

“The diversity of texts and musical language in the carols is stimulating, the choir’s performance of them exceptional.” – The Daily Telegraph

Internationally acclaimed as the pre-eminent representative of great British choral music tradition, the King’s College Choir, Cambridge, owes its existence to King Henry VI who founded the College in 1441.

Since its inception, the Choir has made more than 150 recordings and is broadcasted annually on the BBC and America’s Minnesota Public
Radio for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. The present-day Choir comprises sixteen choristers, fourteen choral scholars and two organ scholars.

In Singapore for the first time, the choir will be performing British folk tunes, classical pieces and Christmas carols led by music director Stephen Cleobury. The evening’s highlight is Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” with guest harpist Katryna Tan.

The choir will also be accompanied by Esplanade Concert Hall’s Pipe Organ with 4470 pipes and 61 stops.
